Privacy Policy

Last updated · 14 October 2026

Papercove keeps your documents on your iPhone or iPad. This page lists everything that can leave the device, when it happens and why.

Who is responsible for Papercove?

Papercove is made by Nguyen Trong Phu, an independent developer based in Vietnam (“we”). We are the controller (the one who decides what happens to your data) for the app and this website.

This policy follows Vietnam's Law on Personal Data Protection No. 91/2025/QH15 and, for people in the European Union, the GDPR. Contact: ferro.cg.co@gmail.com.

What do you collect about me?

Nothing. Papercove has no account, no analytics, no advertising and no crash reporting tool.

We never receive your documents, your questions, the answers, or any identifier for you or your device. Papercove's App Store privacy label says Data Not Collected.

This website sets no cookies and loads no analytics or third-party scripts. Our host, Cloudflare, keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses, to deliver and protect the site.

What stays on my device?

Everything you put into Papercove stays in the app's storage on your device:

  • Documents, scans and photos you add.
  • The text Papercove reads from them, summaries, questions and answers.
  • Folders, reminders and settings.
  • The AI model files after they download.

The AI runs on this device, not on a server, not even Apple's Private Cloud Compute.

Documents aren't included in your iCloud backup. So if you get a new device without a Papercove backup, your documents are lost.

iOS encrypts the app's files. After a restart, they can't be read until you unlock the device once.

What leaves my device?

Your documents never leave this iPhone or iPad unless you export them, send them to a nearby device, or make an encrypted backup. Each of those starts with your tap:

  • Export and share: a document or CSV file goes where you send it with the iOS share sheet.
  • Send to a nearby device: files go straight over your Wi-Fi to the device you pick.
  • Encrypted backup: one encrypted file, saved where you choose.

Two more things use the internet, and neither carries your documents: the AI model download and purchases through Apple.

Which internet addresses does the app contact?

Papercove's own code contacts one internet domain, huggingface.co. iOS contacts Apple for purchases.

  • huggingface.co (Hugging Face, Inc.): hosts the AI model files. Downloads may be passed on to Hugging Face's file delivery network.
  • Apple: the App Store handles purchases, restoring purchases, subscription management and the request to rate the app. iOS makes these requests, not Papercove's code.

You can check this yourself in Settings › Privacy & Security › App Privacy Report. Papercove shows the same list in Settings › Where your data is.

What happens when the AI model downloads?

Papercove downloads the AI model files once, about 2.8 GB in total, and only after you tap to turn on the AI.

  • The request asks for a file and nothing else. It carries no document content, no questions and no identifier added by Papercove.
  • Like any website, Hugging Face sees your IP address and the standard iOS download details. Hugging Face's privacy policy covers that.
  • Downloads use Wi-Fi only unless you change that on the AI model page. iOS can finish them in the background.
  • Each file is checked against a fixed fingerprint before use. A file that doesn't match is deleted.
  • The list of files is built into the app. A different model only arrives with an app update.

Can I send documents to another device?

Yes. Documents go straight over your Wi-Fi to the device you pick, over an encrypted connection, with no server in between.

  • It only runs while the Send or Receive screen is open. Leave the screen and it stops. It never runs in the background.
  • The other device can be Papercove or LocalSend, a free open-source app. Once a file is copied there, it belongs to that device.
  • It only connects to addresses on your local network. Papercove contacts no internet domain for this.
  • When receiving, you tap Accept every time a device sends something. Only PDFs and images are accepted.
  • While the screen is open, devices on the same Wi-Fi can see the name Papercove plus 4 characters. The receiver sees file names and sizes.
  • iOS asks for Local Network permission the first time. You can turn it off in Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network.

How does the encrypted backup work?

Backup puts your library into one encrypted file, saved where you choose: Files, iCloud Drive, a USB drive or a computer.

  • It's encrypted with AES-256 on your device before it's written. The key comes only from a passphrase you set.
  • The passphrase is never stored or sent anywhere. If you forget it, nobody can open the backup, including us.
  • A short unencrypted header shows when the backup was made and how many documents it holds.
  • If you save it to iCloud Drive or another service, that service stores the encrypted file under its own terms.

What happens when I buy Pro?

Apple handles payment for Papercove Pro. We never receive your name, email address or card details.

The app checks your Pro status with Apple on your device. Nothing about your purchase is sent to us.

Apple gives us sales reports, such as the number of purchases per country, under Apple's privacy policy.

Does Papercove use the camera, photos, Face ID or notifications?

Only when you use the feature that needs it, and nothing leaves the device.

  • Camera: only while you scan. Scans stay on this device.
  • Photos: the iOS picker gives Papercove only the photos you pick. The app can't see the rest of your library.
  • Face ID, Touch ID or passcode: iOS checks you and tells Papercove only yes or no.
  • Notifications: reminders are scheduled on the device. Their text is general and never names a document.

Does Apple share anything about me with you?

Only if you allow it. If you turned on Share With App Developers in iOS, Apple may send us anonymous crash reports and usage numbers.

You can turn this off in Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.

How do I delete my data?

Your data lives only on your device, so you delete it there. We hold no copy.

  • A deleted document stays in Trash for 30 days, then it's deleted for good.
  • Delete now or Empty Trash removes it right away.
  • You can remove the AI model on the AI model page.
  • Deleting the app removes all of its data from the device.
  • Backup files you saved elsewhere stay until you delete them.

What are my rights?

You can ask to access, correct or delete personal data about you, or object to its use. Because we hold none, there's usually nothing to hand over.

Write to ferro.cg.co@gmail.com and we reply within 30 days. In the EU you can also complain to your local data protection authority.

What about children?

Papercove collects no data from anyone, including children. It's made for adults who look after household paperwork.

What if this policy changes?

If an app update changes how data is handled, we update this page and the date at the top before that update is released.
